The Publication “Incubator” class

The “Incubator” class, our laboratory for Paly journalism start-ups, offers a smorgasborg of publishing options within a single classroom. If you have an idea for a new publication, or if you’d like to join a small team of students working on an existing niche publishing product, this may be the place for you!

Incubator projects:

  • Anthro (a magazine focused on student activism)
  • Chomp (food magazine) — in print Fall 2024, with digital presence rising
  • Ink! (literary magazine)
  • KPLY (podcast hub)
  • [proof] (photography magazine) (on hiatus, but could return)
  • Veritas — science magazine
  • Via Verde — student travel magazine (back in print 2023-2024)
  • Aperture — freelance documentary collective (on hiatus, but could return)
  • The Paly Voice During fall semesters, The Paly Voice (palyvoice.com), the school’s 24/7 digital news staff often operates out of the Incubator.
  • Your idea for a new publication! If you have an idea for something new, let’s hear it. Most of the publications above started out as whimsical “what ifs” for incoming journalism students. And look what those “what ifs” have become! Options also include reviving an existing publication that has been taking a break from publishing.

As with our other Paly publication courses, students in the Incubator generally are 10th, 11th and 12th graders divided into “Advanced Journalism and Media Studies” and “Media Leadership and Management/Honors (12th graders).”  Students are strongly encouraged to divide their time among multiple Incubator projects.
